Delphinios and the oracle of Delphi.

Dating back to 1400 BC, the oracle of Delphi was the most important shrine in all Greece and the most important oracle of the god Apollo. The adjective delphinios, is connected with dolphins in the Homeric Hymn to Apollo, the Greek god of prophecy, music, and healing.  It mentions how Apollo first came to Delphi in the shape of a dolphin, carrying Cretan priests on his back. People came from all over Europe to have their questions about the future answered by the Pythia, the priestess of Apollo. The answers could determine the course of everything from when a farmer planted his seedlings, to when an empire declared war.
